Dalton Harrison, He/him/they
BA Criminal Justice and Criminology (2024), MSc University of Leeds (2025)

Role: Freelance which involves volunteering at male and female approved premises, creative writing and poetry workshops, teaching, consultancy work in third sector agencies

In 50 words or fewer, what do you actually do day-to-day in your role? Working with people in criminal justice settings and using dialogue and writing resources though art, poetry and creativity to create lasting change, tackle mental health and desistance from crime

What is the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were a student? Try and enjoy the journey and experience of university rather than getting hung up on grades and assessments. Try to push yourself and go to seminars and talk to people outside your social circle and be open to learning new things

Three things to ask me about:

  • Talking about using your life experience to create a personal brand
  • Networking, being under represented in professional settings
  • Being creative

"I am comfortable talking about being a transgender student and my transition while at university. Also about talking about my experiences of prison. As a criminology student I used my experiences to support my research and that is how I developed my activism and creativity. No questions are wrong that is why we are always learning."

Shauni Sanderson, She/Her
BA History, University of Leeds (2011)

Role: Partnership Manager, Book Trust

In 50 words or fewer, what do you actually do day-to-day in your role?
I’m a Partnership Manager at BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity. I work with local authorities and partners across the north to deliver reading programmes, build strategic relationships and help more children and families - especially those most in need - access books, resources and support to get reading together.

What is the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were a student?
Be open minded to a squiggly career - you might end up in places and doing things you would have never expected!

Three things to ask me about:

  • Non-linear or 'squiggly' careers.
  • Making values-led career choices.
  • Reader development organisations (publishing/book-adjacent career options i.e. broadening your search)
